There will be inter-school athletic meets for both secondary and primary schools in 2013, according to Minister of Sport Stephen Lashley.
He made the promise on Friday night in the House of Assembly which wrapped up debate on the 2013/2014 Estimates Of Revenue And Expenditure.
The annual Barbados Secondary Schools Athletic Championships, held in the second semester every school year, and corresponding meet for primary schools, both had to be called off a little over a month ago because the rebuilding of the Mondo track at the National Stadium was not completed on time.
Lashley’s pledge came in direct response to claims by Opposition MP for St Thomas, Cynthia Forde, that the timing of the work done at the Stadium had been poor, and cost thousands of children the opportunity to showcase their talents to the country, and possibly the entire Caribbean at the annual CARIFTA Games.
