Sorry for playing with his feelings

Dear Christine,
I met a man about three years ago. I did not like him very much because he was a snob, but he pestered me with letters and phone calls until I was fed up.
Also, he would come to my district and look into my house and then call me and tell me what clothes I had on and what I did. I thought that he deserved punishment so I led him into believing that I was in love with him. I made fun of him, laughed at him with my friends, until he realized that I was just not interested in him.
Suddenly he went away and I was really surprised and hurt because I thought he would have been terribly sad at leaving me. He did not correspond with me for a long time and I was feeling rather sad. I don’t know why, since I did not really love him.
Finally, I heard from him and he said he was still interested. I was up to my tricks again, so I said so I was. He called me about five or six times but talking to him was a real drag.
Now, I have changed Christine. I no longer dislike him, but I do not know if I love him.
A few of my friends say it will turn to love, especially since he would like to get engaged to me, I am just not sure if I love him. All I know is that I am sorry about the way I treated him. I told him that I would have to think about the engagement.
Christine, if you were in my shoes what would you do? Answer me quickly.

Dear P,
I can see you’re playing a game with this young man and perhaps it’s because you do not know what you really want out of life. It would appear that he truly loves you, but you’re not serious.
Tell him the truth – that you do not love him the way he loves you. It’s also time to act more maturely and stop trying to make a fool of him to your friends.
His attention must make you feel a bit flattered, but from what you’ve written this nice young man has not brought out the best in you.
You do not have to care, but you can be kind.
I am amazed at how young women sometimes treat really nice men, but would settle for those who have no real love whatsoever for them.
I hope years from now you won’t look back and regret the way you treated this man. Who knows?  Perhaps you would come to the realization then, that he was a really good catch – who would have made you a very good husband.
