And they brought the colt to Jesus, and cast their garments on him; and he sat upon him. And many spread their garments in the way: and others cut down branches off the trees, and strewed them in the way. And they that went before, and they that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna; Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord: Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest. – Mark 11:7-10.
Once again the Christian Church around the world is observing Holy Week, reflecting on the suffering, death and glorious Resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
The Lord Jesus was given a warm welcome into Jerusalem on the Sunday (Palm Sunday) and by the Friday the same week, he was put to death. That is human nature, one moment people are with you singing your praises and then they want you destroyed.
Today we greet Him as our King, although we knew His crown was made of thorns and His throne was a cross.
United with Him in His suffering on the cross, may we share His Resurrection and new life because if there was no Resurrection, then there would be no Christianity. Let us then live the resurrected life of Christ, for St Paul in his letter to the Colossians does remind us that “if ye be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where He sitteth on the right hand of God”. – Colossians 3:1.
I would like to leave this prayer with you:
Almighty God, whose son was crucified, yet entered into glory may we, walking in the way of the cross, find it is for us the way of life through Jesus Christ our Lord who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
A blessed and holy Easter to all my readers.
