NASSAU – Four finals were decided this morning at the BTC CARIFTA Games here in The Bahamas.
*Barbadian Tristan Whitehall finished sixth in the Under-20 boys’ discus with 47.20 metres.
*Jamaica’s Fredrick Dacres won the Under-20 boys’ discus with 61.27 metres. Teammate Chadrick DaCosta was second with 55.61 and Eldred Henry of the British Virgin Islands third with 52.06m.
* Jamaica also copped first and third in the Under-17 girls’ high jump. Britny Kerr took gold with 1.68 metres, from Bermuda’s Sakari Famous who cleared 1.65, while Shiann Salmon won bronze with 1.60m.
*Chelsea James of Trinidad and Tobago won her second consecutive gold medal in the Under-17 girls’ shot put and set a new record of 14.48 metres. Janell Fullerton of Jamaica took the silver with 13.75 and Brashae Woods, bronze, with 12.60m for The Bahamas.
*Grenada took gold and bronze in the Under-17 boys’ javelin as reigning champion Anderson Peters threw a record 64.01m, up from 60.5 metres. Mickel Joseph was third with 57.24m, while Travis Ferguson of The Bahamas won silver with 58.76m.
*Ramarco Thompson’s personal best time of 48.96 seconds has booked him a place in the final of the Under-17 boys’ 400 metres.
*Barbadian Rivaldo Leacock clocked 49.40 seconds, just off his personal best, but finished ninth overall in the Under-17 boys’ 400 metres.
*Tiana Bowen grabbed the final spot in the Under-17 girls’ 400 metres with a time of 57.45 seconds.
*Ariel Jackson also had a big personal best time of 54.65 seconds and has the fourth fastest time going into today’s final of the Under-20 girls’ 400 metres. (SAT)
