Shared Adventure did justice to yesterday’s feature British Airways Handicap race at the Garrison Savannah.
The Boston John-trained four-year-old by Wildcat Heir out of Starship Elaine did not break a sweat as he made light work of seven opponents in the race for three-year-old and older horses rated 120-140 and also horses rated 119 and below over 1 570 metres.
It was a scintillating performance that lit up the eighth day of the Barbados Turf Club’s first racing season.
Jockey Kenny John gave the The H and M-owned colt the perfect ride from the start. Having broken on top, John was content to allow Show Me The Money to stay in front of what was billed as a clash of the speedsters.
Show Me The Money took the field through fractions of 25.2 for the quarter, 49 seconds for the half and the three quarter of a mile in a respectable 1:12.2. All that time, Shared Adventure was stalking the leader in the manner in which a predactor stalks his prey.
Little Man Arran, Zoom, Aston Martin, Purr Class, A.P. Vincero and Giovedi all followed.
Show Me The Money continued on a three-length lead and as the field raced past the three-furlong pole, only Shared Adventure looked comfortable among the others.
After Shared Adventure joined Show Me The Money, it was clear that the latter’s tank was empty. Shared Adventure sped off in the blink of an eye and crushed his opponents in a final time of 1:33.2 – just one-fifth outside of the track record held jointly by Asian Jane (127 pounds), Blast Of Storm (128) Talkaboutlucky (122) and Duc De Fur (112). Three lengths back in second was Show Me The Money, partnered by apprentice Damario Bynoe.
Little Man Arran ran an enterprising race under rider Antonio Whitehall to be third while stablemate Giovedi walked in the gates nicely before running past tired and beaten horses under Reshawn Latchman to take fourth.
The deciding factor of the race was the final two furlongs run in a fast 21 seconds flat.
In race five, the BTBA Sale Graduates Trophy Condition Race for Barbados-bred three-year-olds over 1 100 metres, Bill and Haley Blevins’ filly The Price Is Right returned a price of $3.05 to win as she scampered home under jockey Latchman.
Khartoum, ridden by Jarelle Beckles, finished a gallant second. Third in this event was Flying South, with Anderson Trotman on board, while Cavanak, partnered by Antonio Perch snatched fourth.
The season continues on April 20.
