Another one bites the dust.
When news broke last week that it would soon be the end of the line for the Plantation Restaurant and Garden Theatre, readers lamented that another entertainment venue would be closing.
The Plantation, which has been operating for three decades, has been put up for sale as a result of financial losses.
Some readers reminisced about fun times they had over the years at the establishment.
Reeko Lynch: “65 employees affected. Sad times.”
Ali Johannes: “That’s unfortunate. Loved the floor show.”
Maxjudy Stanford: “A great cabaret show. We have taken many friends there over the past years. Hopefully, someone will pick it up and keep the venue going.”
Margaret Ross: “It’s been a while, but always tried to visit when in my little island, Barbados. Hopefully, those 65 employees will be employed soon. Good luck!”
Chris Wright: “This is just another casualty of the tourist industry which has become part of the domino effect of the world economy. Recently, I recollected the many changes entertainment went through, from The Pepperpot in Nelson Street to The Pepperpot in St Lawrence to The Plantation, at all of which I have attended shows. Sorry for the demise that came to these establishments. Signs of the times.”
Orson Arthur: “That is bad news for Barbados. How sad it is to hear all the places are closed. When you rob the tourists and stick them up, this is what you get. Even Barbadians don’t want to come to Barbados. I know people that are going to Barbados next month and they are going to leave all their jewels in the safety deposit box. When you have so “meany” people that don’t want to work, this is what happens.”
It wasn’t all doom and gloom this past week though, as our online readers were happy to hear that the British couple Philip and Ann Prior, shot in a robbery while on Hinck’s Street in the City last month, would be willing to return to Barbados. They made their feelings known in an interview with the BBC.
Princess Tiny Neferua: “Oh my dear, this is so sweet. . . . I am wishing this lovely couple God’s blessings and I also hope upon their return to Barbados that naturalization citizenship would be restored on them for after everything they went through they could still turn around and speak so highly of us and are willing to return.”
Ken Roberts: “Can’t get any better than that, thank you.”
Lara Pseu: “It’s great that they are wise enough to know that it could have happened to anyone in any place at any time. It’s just unfortunate it happened to them. I’m glad that they were enough kind people to offset the damage caused by the criminal element that attacked them.”
Sissy Kitty Linton: “Thanks, guys. Glad to hear you’re doing well.”
