CARIFTA GOLD AND SILVER medallist Jalisa Burrowes was treated to a surprise party at her Taylor’s Land, Bank Hall, St Michael home last Saturday evening to celebrate her success.
Burrowes won gold in the long jump and silver in the 4×100 relay at The Bahamas games.
Her mother Antoinette Springer told the MIDWEEK NATION that it was a joy to watch the surprised but happy expression on her 16-year-old daughter’s face when she stepped out of the house just after 5 p.m. and heard family members shout “surprise”.
“She broke down in tears,” Springer said.
“She was occupied inside getting ready for a fair when everybody was outside preparing for the surprise.
“When she came out of the house she wanted to know why everybody was outside her house and everybody said ‘surprise’.”
Apart from partaking in the eats and drinks, the Springer Memorial athlete unveiled a sign saying The Golden Girl – inclusive of a picture of her showing off her gold medal as well as one of her winning jump – displayed on the front of her father’s truck.
Springer thanked “every single person who helped” her daughter. (AH)
