STRIKERS Dwayne Stanford and Jamal Chandler notched braces to lead Weymouth Wales and the Barbados Defence Force (BDF), respectively, to big victories in the Digicel Premier League on Thursday night at the Wildey AstroTurf.
Stanford was on target in the ninth and 25th minutes in Wales’ 4-2 triumph over Gall Hill in the opening match, while Chandler was even faster with his two-goal blitz, scoring in the third and 17th minutes to set the tone for BDF’s 4-1 victory over winless Youth Milan.
Unbeaten BDF maintained their lead at the top of the standings on 20 points while Wales moved into third position on 14 points, the same as second-placed Claytons Kola Tonic Notre Dame, who have a game in hand and a slighter better goal difference.
Gall Hill actually drew first blood with the season’s fastest goal as the dreadlocked Ryan “Shaky” Griffith slotted home a ball that rebounded from Wales’ goalkeeper Bentley Springer in the first minute.
