The Raul Garcia case continued in chambers in the No. 9 Supreme Court before Justice Margaret Reifer yesterday.
It was the start of the process of examining four people who offered to help in Garcia’s living arrangements once he is released from the custody of the Immigration Department.
Garcia, a Cuban who spent 20 years in prison for drug trafficking, is fighting to stay in Barbados as a free man but now finds himself under Immigration supervision, detained in a facility at Dalkeith, St Michael.
“We started the process today [yesterday] of examining the four persons that we have proposed to play roles in Mr Garcia’s living arrangement after he is released,” said David Comissiong, one of Garcia’s lawyers.
Comissiong, however, said only one person began the process and “it proved to be extremely lengthy, so much so she was the only person examined . . . and the matter has been adjourned to Thursday of this week at 2:30 p.m.”
Comissiong said there were three other people to be examined “and then, presumably, some decision will be made about his [Garcia’s] living arrangements”. He said Garcia witnessed yesterday’s hearing. (JS)
