SOME HOTELS on the South and West Coasts say the just-ended winter season has not turned out to be a bumper one for them but they are keeping their heads above water.
Word from The Sandpiper, St James Beach, and Divi Southwinds,in St Lawrence, Christ Church, is both major hotels have held strain through the 2102 – 2013 winter season – December to April – which they said was a bit of a disappointment.
“We were expecting to do better; we were expecting occupancy would be higher as, at the end of last year, all indicators were that the economy in the United States was coming back,” said Alvin Jemmott, the general manager of Divi Southwinds.
Despite this, Jemmott reported the hotel’s numbers so far were actually a bit higher than the same time last year, saying the property was no worse off. In addition, he said the average room rate had been lowered by $10.
