Not that easy!

ONE of the Caribbean’s best known professional footballers, Shaka Hislop, is supportive of a West Indies World Cup side in spite of the limited success the region has had on the international field.
But the former Trinidad and?Tobago captain and World Cup goalkeeper, now ESPN?sports analyst, told MIDWEEK SPORT the model that has worked for cricket would not work for football.
“I don’t think it resonates,” Hislop said. “I don’t think it will be as rewarding for someone from St Lucia and Barbados to have a team and they are not represented. It happens in cricket, but the dynamics of the two sports are totally different.
“You can put together 11 individuals and make a cricket team, you cannot do that with football. One of the biggest complaints throughout the world is getting players who ply their trades with the various club sides [to] come together for five days before an international.
“To suggest that you not only bring in players from different club teams, but to now bring in players from different islands to make a team with a few days’ preparation, I don’t see how that works either.”
