The Nation’s Online Editor Carol Martindale looks at What’s Trending today in Barbados.
The Barbados Water Authority is concerned about people stealing water from its system and readers have been commenting on this story.
Peter Jan Boos: “The poorer we get the more theft of utilities will occur. The answer is to create an economy that attracts investment and builds wealth through entrepreneurship. A massive Civil Service destroys wealth creation because of its high cost(needs high taxation) and inefficiencies.”
Jeuce theSlayer: “Do you know that in Britain it is illegal for a water service to turn off your water supply. They have to take you to court for payment and even then the water will still be on. It is illegal to leave a person without a basic commodity its goes against human rights. Bajans do some research, this is appalling and backwards.”
Denise Clendinning: “Well in the UK people can’t pay their utilities bills and we now have food banks because people have no money after they have paid their utilities and extra taxes that they have forced on us …”
