A?FORMER?president of the Bar?Association has sent letters to the Attorney General and the Bar advising that attorneys who have not paid their annual subscription fees have no legal authority to practise in Barbados.
Also in his letter to the Attorney General, attorney at law Wilfred Abrahams made reference to the published list of attorneys who were due to be conferred as Queen’s Counsel next Friday, pointing out that there were people on that list who had not paid their fees and as such were practising law in contravention of the Legal Profession Act as well as the Code of Ethics.
The letters dated April 12, were also copied to Chief Justice Marston Gibson and Registrar of the Supreme Court, Marva Clarke.
When contacted yesterday Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite said he was not aware of the letter and declined to comment on the reported elevation of  defaulters to QC status.
