TWO RACES have been named after Gold Cup winners on the Barbados Turf Club’s Remembering Previous Champions Race Day programme at the Garrison Savannah tomorrow.
The nine-race card, which features the Tinker’s Image Handicap and the Bold Lewis Handicap, is set to get going at 1:15 p.m.
Eight horses are down to compete in the Television Handicap for three-year-old and older horses rated 52-75 and also horses rated 51 and below over 1 100 metres.
Top weight goes to Blue Diamond Racing-owned Run for Your Money shouldering 133 pounds. He has followed a win three starts back with two ordinary unplaced efforts.
Between The Sheiks, handicapped to carry 125 pounds, failed to get the job done last effort when he was out run by the rapidly improving import Seattle Sunshine.
A repeat of the performance can once again see him in the money.
Both Kingdora (132) and Golden Moment (126) have sparkled intermittently and might be worth considering. Danny Crane (120) and Boo (110) are looking for repeat wins but are matched here against much tougher competition.
Race 8, the Watersmeet Handicap over 1 570 metres, has the makings of one of the better races on the card with top weight shared by the Victor Cheeseman-trained Zaltarr and the Andrew Nunes-trained Capere, both handicapped to carry 130 pounds.
Zaltarr is in the worst form of his life and should be easily overlooked. Capere has been showing signs of improvement since returning from a lay off. Additionally this is her pet trip despite the weight.
Reward Me, a winner of his last run, is penciled in at 123 pounds.
This former Gold Cup runner ran past a couple of his competitors entered en route to that success. He should easily take this event, now that he is matching strides with three-year-old and older horses rated 45-65 and also horses rated 44 and below.
Indian Soul (127) and Whatadeal (123) have both been constantly returning to their barns with a pay cheque for their efforts and the entries suggest things won’t be different this time around.
The card will close off with the running of the Ginger Lily Handicap for three-year-old and older horses rated 35-55 and also open to horses rated 34 and below over 1 800 metres.
A Team’s Just Jiving, a winner last effort, packs the top weight of 130 pounds. One can expect another game effort from him.
