Thousands of Barbadians are hoping grey skies turn to blue, but that didn’t stop them from flocking to Brandons Beach today for the first event of the 2013 Digicel Reggae Festival.
Steady morning showers across Barbados didn’t prevent Brandons Beach in St Michael from being the place to be, for the Reggae on the Beach show. When Barbadian artiste Celebrity hit the stage at 4.25 p.m the show was off to an hour-late start, but plenty reggae fans were already in their places on the popular beach.
On the outside, a large compliment of private security and members of the Royal Barbados Police Force were on hand to keep things in check.
At last year’s event at the same venue, large numbers near 6 p.m. caused a huge bottleneck and organizers were forced to stop the entry of patrons, but a large extra entrance for VIP customers kept numbers moving smoothly into the venue.
Today’s Reggae on the Beach headline acts are Jamaican Grammy Award winner Bounty Killa and the popular bashment artiste Aidonia.
