$14 000 in cash and jewellery taken from visitors’ apartment

Three Canadians who lost over $14 000 in cash and valuables a few nights ago are upset that their vacation has been spoilt so quickly after arriving.
The three, couple Paul and Tracy Neziol and their friend Georgia Lierwringht, are among a dozen or so friends staying on upper and lower floors of an apartment in Hastings, Christ Church.
Their downstairs section was broken into between 7 and 9:30 p.m. Wednesday and the items, along with a safe, stolen two days after their arrival.
Still somewhat shaken but consoled by what they described as “a very good job’” by the police, a member of the group told the DAILY NATION that the three were visiting as members of a book club and “were really enchanted with Barbados”.
Police, who did not have a suspect up to Press time, reported that the Neziols and their friend left the apartment shortly before 7 p.m., and upon returning, realized that their jewellery, cash, cellphones and iPads – valued at about US$7 000 – were gone.
Police public relations officer Inspector David Welch confirmed several other burglaries concentrated in the tourist belt and said that patrols had recently been stepped up. Each burglary was being investigated in a detailed and systematic way, he added.
