Leaders Barbados Defence Force (BDF) and title contenders Mackeson Brittons Hill clash in a Digicel Premier League top-of-the-table showdown at the Wildey Football AstroTurf tonight.
The match will be preceded by a 6 p.m. showdown between champions Weymouth Wales and Dayrells Road.
BDF, who started the second round with a 1-0 loss to Wales, quickly rebounded on Thursday night by thrashing cellar dwellers Families First St John Sonnets 5-0 to move to 26 points.
They hold a four-point lead on Brittons Hill, who are in second position on 22 points but will be hoping to narrow the gap to a single point with a victory.
When the teams met in the first round, BDF prevailed 3-2 in an exciting encounter and another win would extend their lead to seven points.
Brittons Hill are also coming of a big victory having trounced Dayrells Road 6-2 last Saturday. In that encounter, both Arantees Lawrence and fellow striker Hendy Richards logged hat-tricks.
Along with captain Riviere Williams, Walton Burrowes and youngster Rommell Bynoe, they are expected to truly test the might of the BDF defence.
In BDF’s victory over Sonnets on Thursday, it was noteworthy that they were five different goal scorers in Romario Harewood, Rashad Jules, tall central defender Highland, Kyle Gibson and captain Mario Harte.
Harte has had a relatively quiet season but tends to lift the level of his play in big games. The team’s strike force will certainly keep the Brittons Hill’s defence on their toes throughout what should be a compelling contest.
The opening game will see Wales, who are sixth on 17 points, looking to rebound from their last game 2-1 loss to Claytons Kola Tonic Notre Dame.
Unless Wales can reel off a number of victories and the teams above them lose ground, then new champions will be crowned this year.
