New legal fight for farmers

After winning a major lawsuit against Shell following 15 years of litigation, farmers from Gibbons Boggs, Christ Church, are upset over fees being charged by local lawyers.
Farmers contend that while the three lawyers worked for them, they eventually had to resort to a legal firm in the United States to get a settlement in 2010.
“We believe the lawyers here have worked and should be paid, but we do not want them to be overcharging us. These figures that we see simply cannot be justified,” said a spokesman for Southern Farmers, a group of 17.
The group told the SUNDAY SUN that when they, along with 16 other farmers, filed the case against Shell in 1995 for petroleum contamination from a leaking jet A1 fuel line at Gibbons Boggs, they hired a local lawyer who, in their view, did not provided results.
