The Certified General Accountants (CGA) Caribbean has named its first regional ambassador.
Kevin Stuart, 24, was selected from 15 applicants from across the region in the CGA Caribbean Ambassador Programme. It forms a part of the association’s student exchange programme which was started two years ago.
Stuart is expected to travel to Vancouver, Canada this year where he will take part in a three-month job attachment. Upon his return, he is expected to share his experience with the association’s accounting community.
The accountant told BARBADOS BUSINESS AUTHORITY that it was an opportunity for him to better promote the CGA programme throughout the region and develop his profession. His ambassadorship is valid for one year.
“I will be using this opportunity to get out there to students and market the programme and show them the benefits,” he said.
Noting that CGA Caribbean placed strong focus on ethics, the former St James Secondary School student said he would also be seeking to restore public confidence in the region.
“That is an issue that keeps coming up in the profession. Due to failures in the market in the past you would see that people kind of lost some confidence in accountants and we are basically trying to build that back.”
The student exchange programme is a collaborative effort between CGA Caribbean, CGA British Columbia, Canada and Simon Fraser University, British Columbia. (MM)
