THE AVERAGE MAN in the community has a role to play in sharing the history of Barbados, says director of the Barbados Museum and Historical Society (BMHS) Alissandra Cummins.
She said that the museum cannot tell all that is Barbados. “What we can tell, however, is what you the community tell us to tell,” she remarked.
Cummins was speaking yesterday during the church service at St Matthias Anglican Church to mark the 80th anniversary of the museum and to launch a year of activities.
She said that the museum was looking at developing its community programming by going out to the different communities, taking its exhibits, giving special talks and encouraging people to share their stories, collections, photographs and other images.
“It is by getting that community focus that we are able to enrich the story,” she said. “What you can tell us are key stories and narratives.”
