BARBADOS’ RUN in regional rugby has ended.
Centre James Phillips scored two tries on either side of the half as Trinidad and Tobago put the Bajans out of the second round of the Southern Caribbean Championships via Saturday’s 19-6 victory at the Garrison Savannah.
It was the second loss in as many weeks for the national side, which was still in the hunt for a playoff spot against USA South for the Caribbean title.
But the hopes were all but dashed when the hosts merely managed a solitary Leon Driscoll penalty goal in a very bruising opening half.
Phillips put the visitors ahead to stay just four minutes into the contest before returning on the other side of the break to stretch that lead to 14-6. Trinidadian Jamal Clark then added another try inside the final three minutes to seal the deal.
Trinidad and Tobago are set to face Guyana in Port of Spain next weekend for the rightto play USA South. (JM)
