Alpha Sharks Swim Club weren’t the only ones setting records at last weekend’s 22nd Annual Powerade Aquatic Centre International at the Aquatic Centre.
Alpha Sharks took the title for the 11th successive year as several individual records fell. With 1 371 points, the Sharks ruled the pool, followed by Pirates Swim Club with 1 034.5 points.
Grenadian club Grenfins were a distant third with 477.5 points, while Antigua Aquatic Club and Titans Aquatic rounded out the top five with 431.5 and 407.5, respectively.
Damon St Prix of Alpha had one of the best individual performances, breaking four records in the boys’ 11 to 12 age group.
St Prix won the 200 freestyle in 2 minutes 09.43 seconds; the 100m backstroke in 1:09.72; the 100m butterfly in 1:06.29 and the 50m free in 27.49.
Delron Felix of Grenfins set the record in 50m backstroke in 31.31 seconds, with St Prix hot on his heels in 31.33, breaking his own national age group record of 31.56 set earlier.
Lleyton Martin of Wadadli Aquatic Racers set two new records, with 1:05.80 in the 9 to 10 boys’ 100m free and 29.56 in the 50 free, becoming the first Antiguan to hold records in Barbados.
Danielle Titus of Alpha touched the wall in 34.69 seconds in the 9 to 10 girls’ 50m backstroke and Hannah Gill clocked 9:28.03 in the 800m.
With a time of 2:03.83, Alpha’s Raymond Edwards set the new mark in the 15 and over 200m breaststroke, while teammate Nikos Dunwoody’s 39.99 is the new record in the 9 to 10 boys’ breast.
Four records also fell in the relays. The Pirates quartet of Jack Kirby, Luis Sebastian Weeks, Kobi Talma and Justin Sambara set a new mark of 5 minutes 08.03 seconds in the 11 to 12 boys’ 400m medley relay. Alpha’s 13 to 14 boys’ 400m relay team of Jelani Forde, Brandon Thompson, Kent Mullins and Alex Sobers set a new mark of 4:08.73.
With a new time of 2:14.23, Antigua Aquatic Club claimed the record in the 9 to 10 boys’ 200m freestyle relay, while Amara Gibbs, Lee-Ann Rose, Kimberley Willoughby and Vanessa-Ann Keany of Titans established the mark of 1:58.66 in the 15 and over girls’ event. (SAT)
