Variety stores have been popping up across Bridgetown promising savings to consumers.
And yesterday Save A Dollar on Swan Street joined The Three Dollar Store, Too Good To Be Two and $2.99 And Up in the price-point store market.
The store was bustling with customers hoping to save a dollar. Store owner Rickey Delpeache said the reaction to the store was much better than he expected. “We could not get the door shut yesterday [Wednesday] evening. I do not know if it will keep up for the whole week,” he said.
Delpeache, who also owns Ouch Boutique, normally sells clothing but is moving into food and household items.
“We have been doing clothes for over 15 years and I can see that for the clothes market there is not that demand. It is going down, so in the next five years we do not know where it will be at.
The demand right now is for food [and] household and other small items at a good price. We are trying to get not what people want but what people need,” he said. (LK)
