TO?TAKE this country’s sports development to the next frontier, Government, the private sector and all of the relevant stakeholders will have to unite in a major way in a national team approach.
Minister of Sport Stephen Lashley said this national focus for sports had to be adopted and what he referred to as a “team Barbados” concept would be part of a new strategy which was to be rolled out by the National Sports Council.
Speaking at the Nation Talkback town hall meeting at Solidarity House on Wednesday night, Lashley said this programme would not only look at financing but focus on opportunities for entrepreneurs and other business operators to put their money into sports.
Focusing on the topic How do we transform sports in Barbados from the amateur status to professional level, the minister spoke about the importance of a lottery to provide funding.
