Children taught volley-ball lesson

LAST?SUNDAY was a Father’s Day of a difference when junior national volleyballers played their mothers and fathers at the Wildey Gymnasium.
Age prevailed as the parents proved the superior force with the likes of former national players Valmay Stapleton, Sharon Bovell, Judy Marshall, Andrew Culpepper, Michael Handley, Andy Jordan, Rodney Mayers and Gregory Gill showing their offspring that they could do more than talk about the game.
The Moms defeated the junior girls 25-13, 23-25, 25-22, 25-21, with captain Ashley Marshall making a valiant but futile effort to deny the older generation.
A similar scene unfolded in the male clash with juniors’ captain Jabarry Goodridge standing out in a straight sets loss 26-24, 25-22, 26-24. Setter Akeem Mayers and Ammuniki Wood also looked promising for the Juniors.
One of the highlights of that game was Andriy Stapleton executing a stuff block on his dad, Culpepper – a feat seldom achieved by many of Culpepper’s contemporaries. The well-attended matches were staged to raise funds for the juniors. (KB)
