The Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s ambulance service is ailing so badly that the public is being asked to restrict help calls to genuine emergencies only.
People should also make alternative  arrangements where possible for transportation  to the hospital.
In a Press release yesterday, the QEH stated that its emergency ambulance service had “vehicular failures” which caused it to outsource services to private providers.
The hospital is also getting assistance from the Barbados Defence Force.
The QEH said it was expected that its  ambulances will be incrementally returned  to service – some within 48 hours and others over  a one to two-week period.
The Press release also stated that the procurement of four additional ambulances  was being processed.
“The QEH apologises for any inconvenience caused and thanks the public for their understanding and cooperation at this time,” the release stated. (AH)
