Hundreds of visiting travel agents got a taste of Kadooment today when the Barbados Tourism Authority (BTA) hosted a Kadooment-styled “jump-up” in St. Lawrence Gap.
The event was part of a Mega Fam, a package of activities to familiarize travel agents with the island’s tourism product.
Approximately 300 agents had the chance to dance behind a music truck as the BTA recreated the world reknowned Kadooment for them in the Gap.
The agents from USA, Canada, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Europe and for the first time China were in a festive mood as they made their way from the western end of St. Lawrence Gap to Turtle Beach Hotel.
Led by a Mother Sally, stilt walkers, and brightly costumed dancers, the agents jumped, danced and pranced in their colourful t-shirts designed by well-known bandleader Gwyneth Squires.
Under the theme Treasures of the Garrison; the sections included the soldiers, gold champions, historians, cannons and jockeys.
As spectators watched from bars and restaurants, the agents danced to a number of calypsos and Soca songs blaring from the lone music truck.
The Mega Fam, is used to bring travel agents to the island to allow them to experience the Barbados tourism product. (LK)
