The following is a statement from the Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners (BAMP) on the passing of Sir Richard Haynes.
The Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners (BAMP) is deeply saddened by the passing of our colleague, Sir Richard Haynes.
Sir Richard was a dedicated physician and a pioneer in the field of medicine. During his distinguished career at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, he oversaw the development of the first intensive care unit and significantly improved the quality of patient care and medical education.
As a former Minister of Finance, Leader of the Opposition, Leader of the National Democratic Party, and Chairman of the Haynes Commission, he fought for the social and economic advancement of all Barbadians.
His sterling commitment and service to this country serve as an example for all Barbadians to follow.
We extend our sincere condolences to his wife, Dr Carol Jacobs and to the rest of Sir Richard’s family.  May he rest in peace. (PR)
