Grieving family told: Call on God

The relatives of 12-year-old Rashida Bascombe, who is missing and presumed murdered, have been encouraged to call on God in their time of mourning for true comfort.
This encouragement came from Bishop Dr Marlon Husbands of Sanctuary Empowerment Centre, as he addressed the gathering during a service held at the Parkinson Memorial Secondary School, in memory of Bascombe, who disappeared 11 years ago, while she was a Parkinson student.
Following tributes which reflected on Bascombe’s life, Husbands told the girl’s mother Hermena Starker, her family and friends who had gathered for the brief, touching ceremony that comfort did not always take away the “bad things” but sustained people during difficult times and sometimes made individuals stronger.
“Sometimes it dries up our tears and sometimes it makes us strong . . . . It at least strengthens our determination. It is a comfort that allows us to keep on living after bad things have happened to us,” he said. (AH)
