THE DRIVER and passenger of a cement truck escaped serious injury when the vehicle (above and inset) overturned just off the Lawrence Johnson Roundabout, next to St Thomas Parish Church, at about 12:28 p.m. yesterday.
Driver Hema Baichu, 45, of Lot 35, Belair, St George, complained of injuries to his right hand, a shoulder and a foot and was taken by ambulance for medical treatment. Colleague Everett Crichlow did not appear to suffer any injury although he accompanied his workmate in the ambulance.
The truck, which was fully laden with loose cement, was travelling from the north and was turning left at the roundabout to go to Lower Rock Hall when the incident occurred.
The vehicle is registered to Ready Con of Lemon Arbour, St  John.
One passerby, who requested anonymity, described the incident as horrifying as it unfolded before her eyes. She said she was happy to see an individual emerging to dust off himself. She was the one who called the police, showing her mobile phone which registered the call at 12.30 p.m. (KB)
