Sue and Robin Wood are a British couple whose 25-year love affair as a married couple is synonymous with their 25-year love affair with Barbados.
They have just celebrated their silver wedding anniversary here, joined by friends, among them Tracey Thornton, the witness at their wedding who they had also met in Barbados.
The couple took time out from lazing with their friends in the pool at Blue Orchids Beach Hotel, Worthing, on the day of their anniversary to talk with Social Scene.
Barbados had been recommended to them as the ideal place for their wedding 25 years ago by Sue’s friend, who had also been married here. Reflecting, Robin remembered “it was not so easy to get married in Barbados in those days”. He said back then the marriage ceremony was performed by a magistrate, in their case, Magistrate Frank King.
They have returned to Barbados every year to celebrate their wedding anniversary, spending two weeks, and come again in October for another two weeks.
I do . . . still: 50 year and counting
Fifty years of love were celebrated by Denzil and Barbara Worrell when they renewed marriage vows at St Silas Anglican church recently.
On their 50th wedding anniversary, the couple retraced their wedding-day walk to the altar, reciting vows once again, this time in the presence of their three children Sheldon Worrell, Harriet Headley and O’Brian Worrell, and their spouses Cheryl Worrell, Henderson Headley and Navisha Worrell.
Also present were grandchildren Shannen Worrell, Shadae Worrell, Haile Headley, Hilarie Headley, Suarav Worrell and Javed Worrell, along with many friends and well-wishers.
The celebrations continued with a luncheon at 214 Valencia Avenue, St Silas heights.
