Healthy behaviour and flavours cannot be legislated so it is up to every Barbadian to heed the information available and make healthy choices for themselves.
“We in the Ministry of Health are constantly promoting healthy ideas but habits die hard,” said Minister of Health John Boyce.
However, Permanent Secretary Tennyson Springer said officials there were seeing reductions in the amount of salt and sugar being served [to the public] as well as a change in public awareness, which he said was proof their educational programmes were working.
“The educational component is beginning to take effect as there are a lot more people in the supermarket reading the labels to see the quantities of salt and sugar. We are seeing some behavioural changes,” he said. (CA)
