Renewable energy the future

In a few weeks’?time, Government will be taking to Cabinet and Parliament an energy policy largely dealing with the greater renewable energy use, both base load and interruptible supply.
Senator Darcy Boyce, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, made this disclosure on the occasion of the Caribbean Sustainable Energy Roadmap and Strategy (C-SERMS) Resource Mobilization Forum held at the Accra Beach Hotel yesterday morning.
“The legislative and regulatory framework will also be transformed through the redrafting of the over 100-year-old Electric Light And Power Act which will seek to facilitate the sale of electricity to the grid both at utility scale and distributed scale and establish a licensing regime for renewable electricity systems.
“The renewable energy community has been clamouring for this legislation and I wish to assure them that this bill is now in the final stages of drafting and is expected to be submitted to the Cabinet and Parliament within the next month,” he said. (MK)
