GOVERNMENT WILL BE looking to the global Green Climate Fund (GCF) to support Barbados in its climate adaptation and greening efforts.
This is according to Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler who said substantial resources would be required in this area. He said Government had undertaken a Green Economy Scoping Study in 2011 that explored the potential for greening sectors like agriculture, tourism and transportation.
“It is envisaged that this would have significant and positive returns for both Government and the private sector by reducing costs and improving the quality of life,” he said.
Sinckler made the comments at Hilton Barbados on Thursday during the opening of a Green Climate Fund Workshop on climate finance readiness hosted by the Caribbean Development Bank, GCF and the government of Germany.  (NB)
