LANI CABRERA and Alexis Clarke are taking their talents to Spain.
The Bajan swim duo is heading to the Palau Sant Jordi Arena, Barcelona on Wednesday to compete at the 15th FINA World Swimming Championships.
It’s the latest overseas assignment for Cabrera, Barbados’ top distance female, who has worn the ultramarine and gold at the 2011 Pan American Games in Mexico as well as last December’s Short Course World Championships in Turkey.
A multiple national record-holder and student athlete at Florida Gulf Coast University, Cabrera most recently copped three silver medals at the Central American and Caribbean Amateur Swimming Confederation (CCCAN) Championships in Costa Rica.
The World Championships will serve as the first major international tournament for the 14-year-old Clarke, who was a double bronze medallist at this year’s CARIFTA Championships in Jamaica.
The Queen’s College student is also looking to qualify for the FINA Junior World Swimming Championships slated for next month in Dubai. (JM)
