Sagicor UWI off-spinner Nekoli Parris’ 11-wicket match haul was not enough to gain his side a two-day victory over Guardian General Barbados Youth. The Youth’s ninth-wicket pair batted out the last half-hour on the second day of their sixth-round LIME Elite Division match yesterday with a player absent.
Barbados Youth, who started day two on 39 for four in reply to UWI’s first innings total of 301 for six declared, were bundled out for 67 in their first innings.
Following on 234 behind, Barbados Youth fought tooth and nail to deny UWI a two-day triumph and closed on 135 for eight. Parris bowled 48 overs from the northern end and has so far captured 11 wickets for 77 runs.
Parris and leg-spinner Akeem Dewar tested the technique and temperament of Barbados Youth against slow bowling when played resumed.
The youngsters failed miserably as Parris, with five for 22, and Dewar, three for 26, sliced through the lower middle order.
Barbados Youth fought much better in their second innings after Parris wiped away their top order. This time around, he has six for 55 but was thwarted by a sixth-wicket stand that spanned 16 overs between Zachary McCaskie (29) and Romario Greaves (30).
Earlier, captain Roshon Primus scored 21 but it took the unbeaten ninth-wicket pair of wicketkeeper Alex Fergusson (9) and Tarik Shorey (1) to bat out the last half hour with Jamaine Profitt absent ill.
