People in?the Barbadian workforce are not lazy, they just need more encouragement from their employers.
Glenda Gilkes, president of the Human Resource Management Association of Barbados Inc. (HRMAB), said yesterday sometimes employees were detached and just needed their employers to get them re-engaged.
Her observation came against the background of comments made by businessman Ralph Johnson in yesterday’s DAILY NATION, referring to the Barbadian workforce as “lazy” and “inefficient”, adding that the only way to get the best out of Barbadian workers was to pay them based on their productivity in the workplace.
Responding to questions at a Press conference at HRMAB’s breakfast panel discussion on absenteeism in the workplace at the Savannah Beach Hotel, Gilkes said she believed to get more out of workers employers should give them the opportunities they needed. (MM)
