MORE?THAN 50 PRISON OFFICERS are up in arms over a recent decision that could prevent them from being appointed to the Barbados Prison Service.
At a meeting held last Tuesday morning, the temporary prison officers, some working at the island’s only prison for more than seven years, were informed they now had to apply for the post of Prison Officer 2 and their applications must be submitted no later than August 8.
“We have not seen the official letter from Personnel Administration. We only heard about it at the meeting with the acting superintendent, the ASP (assistant superintendent), the executive officer, the personnel officer and the president of the Prison Officers’ Association,” a prison source disclosed. It is understood that applicants for the vacancies must have at least one CXC and a passing grade in the prison’s training course.
Association president Sergeant Donald Connell confirmed the dissatisfaction among the 50-plus prison officers and said the body was concerned about the latest development.
