THE MAJORITY of fatal and severe accidents on the island’s roads are caused by young drivers.
Gayle Marshall, a risk management officer at Insurance Corporation of Barbados Limited (ICBL), said claim statistics nationally showed that more severe accidents were caused by drivers under age 25, even though this age group was not responsible for the bulk of accidents on the road.
She spoke to the SUNDAY SUN during an ICBL-sponsored defensive driving seminar for under-25 drivers at the company’s Roebuck Street headquarters. It was held to assist young drivers in reducing the likelihood of accidents.
Marshall said: “Right now, most of the insurance companies in this country, if not all of them, implement the young driver excess (charge) which is higher than the excess than regular drivers have . . .” (AH)
