Director of the Urban Development Commission (UDC) Derek Alleyne has a dream for Bridgetown and its environs.
And if he had his way, he would bulldoze it into reality.
“My dream, really, is to take a bulldozer and take out some of the sects out of urban Barbados. Give people space. But nobody wants to move . . . . Some of the areas can do with some space,” he lamented.
Alleyne, who attended a service to mark the 16th anniversary of the UDC at Bethel Methodist Church yesterday, said too many of the neighbourhoods in the urban corridor are “cluttered” and there is a need to “tidy them up”.
He said there were some areas in St Michael where the water table is two feet, and it would be a challenge to put in a water-borne facility. (YB)
