The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) will be renamed in honour of the late medical practitioner and politician Sir Richard Haynes if a resolution passed at the Democratic Labour Party’s (DLP) annual conference is taken up by the Government.
The resolution called on the Government to recognize the enormous contribution made by the former Minister of Finance and founder of the now defunct National Democratic Party in establishing the ICU, and proposed that it be renamed the Sir Richard Haynes Intensive Care Unit.
Incoming general secretary Donville Inniss told the DAILY NATION yesterday evening that several other resolutions, with changes, were passed, including those dealing with welfare, paternity leave, youth engagement and absentee voting.
Other resolutions will be dealt with at the party’s general council meetings. Among them are a review of the DLP’s candidate selection process and constituency matters. (DP)
