AS THE TUDOR Street Campus Trendz tragedy approaches its third anniversary on September 3, once again the families of the six young women who lost their lives, will engage in activities to commemorate the incident.
Shanna Griffith, Nikkita Belgrave, Pearl Cornelius, Tiffany Harding, Kellishaw Ollivierre and Kelly Ann Welch died in the Tudor Street Bridgetown boutique after it was firebombed during an attempted robbery.
On Sunday, September 1, family members of the victims are expected to gather at a church in The City.
All churches across Barbados are being asked to dedicate their services to the issue of violent crimes and violence against women in particular.
On Tuesday, September 3, a minute’s silence will be observed at noon. The family members will congregate at National Heroes Square, The City, at that time and lead the national minute of silence.
These plans were revealed by founder of the September 3 Foundation, David Comissiong, at a Press conference at the Clement Payne Centre, Crumpton Street, St Michael.
“During that national minute of silence we will not simply be focusing on the six Campus Trendz victims but we will also put a very special focus on the victims who died as a result of violent crime in Barbados between September 2012 to September 3, 2013.
“We will be doing roll call of those victims; we will be calling out their names in National Heroes Square because the whole intention behind this is to ensure that these victims do not remain invisible, to ensure that we don’t sweep this issue under the carpets. . .,” he said.
Comissiong said that interested Barbadians were invited to join the families at the Square.
