LOCAL HOCKEY TEAMS are expected to continue their dominance when the first whistle blows for 28th Annual Banks Barbados International Hockey Festival tomorrow.
The festival officially gets underway tonight with an opening ceremony at the Cricket Legends Pavilion, while preliminary matches will be played at Queen’s Park and the Police Sports Club, Weymouth, from tomorrow through Wednesday, starting at 9:30 a.m.
The action will then shift to Kensington Oval on Friday and Saturday for the semi-finals and finals, respectively.
With more than 35 teams slated to compete in the one-week tournament, expectations are high among the home-based sides which will be going all out to defend their titles.
So far, only four overseas teams have registered: three regional teams and England’s Durham Jesters.
The local sides captured the majority of silverware at last year’s competition, walking away with three of the four major titles.
