Farley brothers move on to knockout stage

The Farley brothers, Trevor and Kevin, topped their groups to advance to the knockout phase of the men’s singles when the Caribbean Table Tennis Championships continued at the Beausejour Indoor Facility, Gros Islet, St Lucia, yesterday.
Kevin defeated Michael Ling of Aruba at the round robin stage 11-6, 11-5, 11-5 and Guyana’s Nigel Bryan 5-11, 11-9, 11-9, 9-11, 11-6. 
Elder brother Trevor took out Faith Stanislaus of St Lucia 11-4, 11-8, 11-7 and defeated Martinique’s Fabrice Elie-Dot Casque 11-4, 11-9, 11-9.
Both Farleys are seeking to win the regional singles title for the second time.
Mark Dowell finished second in his group to advance after beating Nicholas Francois-Haugrin of Martinique 11-6, 11-9, 11-4 and losing to French Guiana’s Stephane Figara at five, five and eight.
Foundation student Kristian Doughty, in his first outing at the senior Caribbean Championships, also qualified for the knockout rounds with a second-place finish in his group.
He beat Guadeloupe’s Robin Racassin 9-11, 12-10, 12-10, 6-11, 11-6 but went under to Samuel Galvez of the Dominican Republic in straight games at ten, four and three. (PH)
