Healthy air travel is under threat

Efforts to ensure that air travel remains free of communicable diseases and health disasters seem to be under threat from reduced funding.
This funding is made possible by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), a United Nations agency created to promote safe and orderly development of international civil aviation. It sets standards and regulations necessary for aviation safety, security, efficiency and regularity, as well as for aviation environmental protection.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the fifth CAPSCA Americas Meeting And Training at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Dr Anthony Evans, from ICAO headquarters, said that after this year, it was unlikely that funds would be filtered to CAPSCA from ICAO. That would put the organization in a financial bind, he said, unless donations were received.
CAPSCA is the collaborative arrangement for the prevention and management of public health events in civil aviation. (AH)
