Prime Minister Freundel Stuart is stepping in today to try to sort out the controversy surrounding the laying off of temporary Government workers.
Amidst reports that some temporary workers are now without jobs, Stuart will meet with the Head of the Civil Service and other top officials to ensure that even as Government seeks to cut costs, the situation involving temporary workers is “not mishandled”.
“I am going to be meeting with the Head of the Civil Service, the Chief Personnel Officer, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of the Civil Service and other persons involved in this whole process to make sure that this situation is clarified,” he told the media after touring stores at the Limegrove Lifestyle Centre in Holetown yesterday.
Stuart said he wanted the matter to be “humanely and sensibly managed for the benefit of the Government, for the benefit of the workers, and the benefit of the households and businesses of Barbados”.
