PA GOLF COULD soon become a household name in the United States.
That is because Barbadian-born businessman Peter Andrew Harewood is about to enter that market with his unique golf wear as he keeps his passion for the sport alive.
Harewood, 51, lives in Switzerland where he owns and operates his own golf company PA Golf. He teaches the sport, offers fitness and mind-training from his own fitness centre and even designs his own entire line of golf clothing complete with shoes, hats and accessories.
Three years ago, Harewood shared his story with The NATION.
His journey started right here in Bank Hall, St Michael. Harewood, the third of seven children, four girls and three boys, left the island at the age of 18.
The father of four boys was specially invited to attend the Ted Rhodes reunion golf classic to be held at the Ted Rhodes Golf Course in Nashville, Tennessee, September 7 and 8. During this time he is expected to launch his line of golf clothing.
This golf tournament seeks to bring together a number of the world’s famous golfers who would have played in the Ted Rhodes tournament over the last 43 years, as well as golf enthusiasts.
An elated Harewood said attending such an event showed that his work was appreciated, adding that it was “a major breakthrough”.
“This is confirmation that I have been designing some of the most beautiful stuff. The Americans said I have to bring it over because nothing like this has ever been seen in America,” he told the MIDWEEK NATION.
With his dream of opening a golf academy in Barbados still alive, Harewood said he wanted fellow Barbadians to hold on to their dreams, especially during the current economic climate.
“You only reach the top when you start small and think big. The more you stay on something, [the more] it doesn’t matter what tribulations come and once you believe in the vision you have, you are going to succeed,” he said.
Over the years Harewood has been travelling to countries such as Russia, Italy, Holland and Singapore, among others, where he shares his knowledge and skills and also promotes his work.
So far, he has been able to penetrate British and German markets, and hopes to get into France by the end of this month. (MM)
