A manhunt turned into a drug seizure yesterday as police and the Defence Force personnel conducted a joint operation in St George.
Reports indicate the operation was initially to find missing man Malcolm Mark Small, 37, of Taitt Hill, St George, who was last seen by his brother Evans Parrish on August 26.
Instead, the lawmen discovered 123 cannabis plants and a shed which was used to dry them. Police public relations officer Inspector David Welch said the plants were well taken care of and fertilized which suggested a greater effort on the parts of criminals to grow, harvest and hide the illegal drug. No arrests were made.
This latest find follows the recent discovery of more than 1 300 cannabis plants in Pot House, St John. Welch said more cannabis plants had been seized so far for the year than in 2012 and police were concerned. He asked the public to assist with any information by anonymously contacting the Drug Squad at 418-2631 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIPS (8477). (CA)
