Residents of College Savannah, St John, are grieving over unsanitary conditions they say are a result of the unkempt burial ground at nearby St Mark’s Anglican Church.
They complain that the conditions worsen after heavy rainfall, which results in water seepage from the graves onto their properties with an accompanying foul smell.
Yesterday, there were large cracks in a number of common graves and tombs, with some exposing skeletal remains.
Resident Ivis Watson told the WEEKEND?NATION that she called health officials, who had not yet turned up. She said she had to clean up fragments of wreaths which blew onto her property as recently as Wednesday. She also felt that some graves were too close to the road.
