The Students’ Guild of the University of the West Indies’ (UWI) Cave Hill Campus is seeking an audience with Prime Minister Freundel Stuart to present him with an alternative to Government’s decision to stop paying tuition fees for Barbadian students.
And they’ve turned to general secretary of the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) Sir Roy Trotman to help them get their voice heard.
Sir Roy said yesterday the Guild had asked him to draw on his experience to help them.
“I’ve written to the Prime Minister drawing to his attention their interest in presenting what they believe is an alternative view and urging that they be given the chance, accompanied by me, to put their thoughts before him or whoever he delegates, and to let us have a discourse arising out of it,” he said.
Sir Roy was speaking at the BWU’s 72nd annual delegates’ conference at Solidarity House.
